From 20 April 2026, all cross-Channel freight travelling into France will require a valid Envelope Logistique Obligatoire (ELO). French customs have confirmed that every vehicle must have an ELO created before arriving at the border. Vehicles without a valid ELO may be delayed or redirected to inland border facilities for processing.

The ELO acts as a digital envelope, linking customs and safety documentation for each vehicle. This change is part of ongoing updates to French border procedures aimed at improving processing and compliance.

Hauliers and logistics operators should ensure that documentation is completed and submitted in advance to avoid delays. This includes preparing T1 transit documents and Entry Summary Declarations (ENS) where required.
